New Year changes at The Hideaway

Over the coming months at The Hideaway there will be small changes coming in all the time beginning with the children's sessions on offer in January. We’ve really upped our game in terms of the classes, sessions and activities on offer this year and we’re in the process of turning that amazing Narnia grotto into a brand new sensory space - ideal for little ones and babies. We have amazing plans for development, new toys, activities and spaces over the coming months and year and we’re so excited that the Hideaway is just going to keep getting better and better!

What's new?

Our schedule has been simplified so that each morning at 10.30am we begin with our popular song time or story time in the reading area. That’s followed at 11am by a physical tots session. We’ve kept our footie tots, basketball tots and active tots and new for this term, Wednesday mornings is now tennis tots and Thursdays is for dance tots! Messy play has moved to 11.30am each day and at 2pm everyday we have a brand new games & play session. This will be great fun and ideal for toddlers to have fun while they learn together, developing their gross and fine motor skills. Then after school we’ve developed our 4pm activities keeping archery and slime time and bringing in a new Reuse Recycle craft session, Dance fun with Shelbie and a movie night. All of this is included as part of your standard entrance and we don’t charge any extras for children to take part in as much as they would like to.

Price changes

From Monday 7th January 2019 there will be some pricing changes at The Hideaway. Since opening in May last year, we’ve played around with different types of pricing structures including the pay as you go system so you only paid for the time that you were in. Whilst many of our customers loved this particular pricing strategy, we found that after a while so many customers were sneaking out of the gate without paying at all we were left with no option but to revert to a more traditional set price on entry system.

Getting the pricing right has been an on-going challenge for us here at the Hideaway! As a not-for-profit venture we’re determined to be affordable enough for people to visit us regularly but make enough money to pay our staff and bills and that’s a tricky balance to get. We’re constantly asked for discounts for multiple siblings, twins, childminders, local people, short visits, toddlers, regular customers, small groups – you name it. We do our best to keep our pricing fair, affordable and great value for money – but we do have to draw some lines somewhere.

So why change our prices?

One of the things that makes the Hideaway great are the included extras that you get when visiting us, and the annoying extras that we don’t have! We include a full programme throughout the week of crafts, messy play, story and song time, physical activity sessions and an after-school programme. All these sessions take extra staff, disposable resources such as craft and messy play items actually cost quite a lot of money to put on. Other play centre’s that offer these classes and sessions charge extra – and often quite a lot extra to access. When you visit the Hideaway, it’s all included in the entrance price.

In addition to this, many other centre’s make extra money with a little shop, rides-ons and various money-making machines. As parents, we understand how annoying it is to pay for entry, only to have your child throw a paddy because they want all the extras on top! We want a visit to the Hideaway to be as easy, relaxed and enjoyable as possible for the parents and the kids so quite simply, it’s our policy not to have all these extras.

What are the new prices?

You’ll be pleased to hear it’s not a huge increase! Our regular mid week pricing will go from £4.50 to £4.95 for children over 12 months old. Babies are still free. On a weekend and during school holidays it will be £5.95 – peak pricing. Childminding rates will stay the same for now. We hope you will agree that it still represents excellent value for money. Of course if you visit regularly, you can still buy the Take 5 pass which allows you to visit 5 times for just £20 - £4 per visit making that even better value!

Local residents (M31 post code) can buy a pass for £1 per year which allows them a discounted entry.
